Filezilla FTP Client

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. And Filezilla is the most popular FTP so far.
Filezilla ftp client is used as another way to access the server of our cpanel (control panel) of webhosting we use to host a self-hosted blog or website. Especially important to use Filezilla to upload a big file or files within a folder from a PC into a webhosting. There are many free ftp on the internet. But Filezilla is the most popular and most reliable one.

If you have a self-hosted blog, having Filezilla installed on your PC is a must. Not for those who run a free blog such as blogger.com or wordpress.com in which case you do not need and cannot use FTP.

These are the software details:

Name of software: Filezilla
Website: filezilla-project.org
Download: Free download for all kind of OS (operating system)
Installation: After download, just double-click the .exe file. The process will be self-explanatory.

How to setup, connect and integrate your server with Filezilla so that you can transfer (upload / download) a file or many files within a folder to your wehbosting :

1. Click Filezilla icon in you desktop
2. Click “New Site”
3. I name it fatihsyuhud
4. In “Hosts” I enter fatihsyuhud.com
5. Port 21 (by default)
6. Server Type: FTP (by default)
7. Logontype: check “Normal”
8. User: your username when login into your cpanel
9. Password: your password to enter your cpanel
10. Click “Save and Exit”. Done.

From now whenever I want to upload file to my server, I just click “Filezilla” in my desktop -> click fatihsyuhud -> click Connect. There will be two boxes showing up, left side and right side. Left side consist of files in my computers, while right side box is files in my webhosting.

Whenever I want to upload a file, I just press the file from left-side and drag it into the right side, in a place I want it to put.

Example, I want to put file of sideblog plugin, I will drag the “sideblog.php” into public_html -> wp-content -> plugins -> put plugins here.

Ftp Filezilla can also be used to change file attributes knows as CHMOD. Click the file in the webhost -> right-click -> File attributes -> check the box as you wish. E.g. from 666 into 755 etc.
